Lebor Gabála Érenn
The Taking of Ireland
The Lebor Gabála Érenn describes six invasions or “takings” of Ireland, in which the island is colonized by different peoples. These six invasions may have been inspired by the Medieval Christian tradition of dividing history into the Six Ages of the World. The first four waves of settlers are all either killed or expelled from Ireland over the course of the epic, leaving Ireland to the Gaels, and the Tuatha Dé Dannan.
Lebor Gabála Érenn ("The Book of the Taking of Ireland"; known in English as The Book of Invasions) is a collection of poems and prose narratives in the Irish language recording the kings from the very first all the way up to the Middle Ages. It provides an epic accounting of six cycles of first settlers in Ireland.
The first four groups are wiped out or forced to abandon the island; the fifth group represents Ireland's pagan gods, and the last...most recent are the Milesians (the Gaels). Everything before colonization was denoted as a 'myth'. Just when we thought there was nothing else to discover, ancestral knowledge and GIS technologies opened the whole world back up to new discovery. Exciting times we live in!
The High Kingship is established by the Fir Bolg, whose nine kings are succeeded by a sequence of nine kings of the Tuatha Dé Danann. After the Milesian (Gaelic) conquest the High Kingship is contested for centuries. There are a handful of sources slightly predating the Lebor Gabála Érenn covering significant portions of essentially the same list of Milesian High Kings, starting with the Laud Synchronisms estimated to have been compiled c. 1021 (part of Laud 610). The oldest section of the Lebor Gabála Érenn "Roll of Kings" is taken from the poems of Gilla Cómáin mac Gilla Samthainde, written c. 1072.

This trend can be linked to other festivals of its kind (see Liminal European Festivals) because “below the surface of dominant European culture a current of implicit beliefs expressed in practices incompatible with the dominant of religious tenets and related ultimately to pre-Christian ideas” continues to persist (Jenkins 1994). The Fomoire
The Jötunn, a tribe within Norse diety, or advanced beings who could appear human, or a blue giant. Like LOKI - you know, from Marvel. Like the Fomoire (are they the same race? The Book of Invasions implies...all ancient races are known by other names (depending on who is referring to them and when)...let's look into it. Either way, both were known to teach mankind a great deal, and Hyperborea might have been Jötunheim (or a gateway to it)...how fun. We can't hate them, after all, our heroine Heiðr, is a Jötunn.

The Ancestors
Indigenous people openly and often refer to 'The Ancestors', and what they mean is more connected than the family tree.
Indigenous people around the world define themselves not in terms of genealogical descent, but in terms of relationship to the land and in terms of their relationships to others through the land.

Epic Fantasy Fiction
Inspired by Mythology
The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien, a Golden Age exists in Middle-earth legendarium. Arda (the part of the world where The Lord of the Rings is set), was designed to be symmetrical and perfect. After the wars of the Gods, Arda lost its perfect shape (known as Arda Unmarred) and was called Arda Marred. Another kind of 'Golden Age' follows later, after the Elves awoke; the Eldar stay on Valinor, live with the Valar and advance in arts and knowledge, until the rebellion and the fall of the Noldor, reminiscent of the Fall of Man. Eventually, after the end of the world, the Silmarilli will be recovered and the light of the Two Trees of Valinor rekindled. Arda will be remade again as Arda Healed.
